Although don’t get too excited yet. I’m going to try to get once a week updates going again for Fridays. I’ve rescheduled my class I teach to mondays so I’ll have tues/wed/thurs to get the pages done. There may be some break with color if I can’t get the color done, or only base shades or something. But I DO want to make sure this gets going on again.

I did have some comics left over at the end of last convention season and they can be ordered through my store at evilspacecat.com. Its pretty much chapter one, re-lettered and tweeked a little. Although the last page contains Darshe’s full real name. XD I’m completely redrawing chapter 2 for the next issue, but its far from done. I don’t intend to update the site with the new artwork though, as it will be formatted from the get go for print, and I don’t really want to reformat it twice. So if you want to see the new art, you’ll have to order a copy.

I know a lot of you have been patiently awaiting an update on the situation. No, Brymstone is not dead. Please stop asking. Its just on a hiatus while I deal with life.

I’m working 2 jobs, plus have to take commissions/freelance work to make ends meet. Paying my bills comes first, and Brymstone right now is a glorified hobby because it doesn’t make any money. Its actually cost me quite a bit of money this year, because of printing comics and convention costs. So I’m struggling to make all my payments on mortgage, credit cards, utilities, etc. I’m not asking for money, I’m just telling you all, paying work comes first.

Brymstone takes me a long time to do. The lineart isn’t bad, but the coloring takes forever. A single page can take me up to 16 hours to complete. Right now, I don’t have that kind of time. If you follow Shifters, and wonder why that updates and this doesn’t, its because I have a colorist for that comic, who is currently willing to donate her time freely. If it was not for her, that comic wouldn’t be updating right now either. She’s not willing to color for Brymstone without payment. It would cost me about $25 a page to have her color Brymstone. If anyone feels like ponying up some cash, I’m happy to move on it. Right now, I don’t have the money, so someone else has to pitch in.

If however, as I suspect, no one has the money, you’ll just have to be patient until I can get some time to do the work myself. I hope to do some over xmas, and hopefully build a significant buffer.

I could post just lineart, but I personally wouldn’t like that. My lineart is pretty lame without the color because its done in such a way to work with the color, not stand on its own. I really hate sacrificing quality, so I often would rather just wait until I can do it right than halfass it for the sake of speed. But if you people don’t care about the color, and make that clear, I might consider posting just lineart.

But otherwise, if you want the nice shiny pages, you’ll have to wait until I’m not f*ing exhausted and can clear some of these other obligations out of the way so I can pursue my hobbies again.

Okay, I had a long post and then the cat stepped on my keyboard and wiped it out.

Basically, sorry for the filler guys, but I’ve been busting my ass trying to get Brymstone to the printer. I only managed to do a 28 pg standard comic for starters, but it should be alright for the con, and is incidentally the only place I’ve ever publicly stated Darshe’s full name. But I felt you guys deserved an update, even if it is just on what’s going on.

I’m only printing small quantities of books right now, but if you are interested in acquiring one of these limited edition books, please email me at shadowsmyst@gmail.com. I won’t be selling them until after the cons, but after each con, I’ll look at how many I have left and offer them to the people who’ve asked. Assuming that CanadaPost is up and running again. They will cost probably about $7. Not horribly expensive, but they were more expensive to print than I originally wanted.

Whew. And its another page closer to PLOT. There’s actually some in this page. I LOVE Raif in the bottom left panel putting his swords away. And look who’s back. Its Rowan, his mind ever on food. Completely doesn’t care he just raided someone else’s kitchen for it.

And now, in other news. I do another comic called “Shifters Redux“, you may have heard about it. It is with great pleasure I can now say that it is updating again. It started on  June 6th, and with some special help from Mad Cheshire, It will hopefully be a weekly update. I’m TRYING to get set up with a colorist on this comic too, but with getting Shifters set up, AND getting the book put together in time for the various events I’ll be at, like Minicomi, Cos & Effect, and Vcon, its been a bit troublesome. But I’m trying.

Annnd we finally have a page! Honestly I do work on these as often as I can, although I’ve been experiencing some technical and biological fail. But if you want to spy on me as I work, I’ve been doing Livestreams for Brymstone every Wednesday at 9pm PST. Come and join if you want to spy on my progress. Speaking of progress, there is now a progress bar to help keep you appraised of where I’m at for the next page. Hopefully I’ll figure out a better way to flat that’s faster and doesn’t rely on my failing mouse.

ALSO, I’m talking with a printer about the graphic novel in terms of quantities, and I’m wondering if anyone would be interested in pre-orders. The book would be bout 120 pages, perfect bound, glossy cover, full colour cover and insides. I’m not sure the price yet, but if you are interested, would you consider pre-ordering? If I sweetened the deal with some extra Brymstone swag such as buttons or bookmarks, or perhaps a citizenship card to the Kingdom of Hakkred? I still haven’t decided on all my extras yet, but there will be sketches, possibly some extra pages that aren’t online. Holy crap, I finally finished it. Seriously, I’ve been working on this for weeks. I’m not entirely sure what happened, but crap, I’m SO HAPPY its done. Probably not my best page evar, but still passable. (seriously, I’ve been streaming it live, so I have witnesses that I was working and not slacking!) I stream on Tuesdays and Weds from 8:30 pm to usually midnight PDT. We talk on skype and mock things and have a good time. Consider joining us.

I thought I’d point out that I now have a Tumblr account, and while there isn’t a lot there, I am accepting questions on it ( I don’t think you have to register to ask a question… don’t quote me on that..), so if you have one you want to ask, go ahead. You can also follow me too if you happen to be a tumblr person, I will follow you back.

If you follow the Brymstone facebook page, there is a schedule of the Ustreams, including a special early day one on Friday, if you can’t make the evening ones.

And so we learn today that Rushe turns into a cat when exposed to women. Or at least meows like one. Slightly different twist than the original RP, because I thought it was funnier. And we see Ghost Darshe for the first time! Isn’t he all cute and… ghosty.

In other news I’m officially going to be selling at Minicomi! I’ve sent my papers and payment and they’ve all confirmed it so on July 23rd, I’ll be up at UBC selling my stuff, which is going to include a Brymstone graphic novel!

Yes, you heard me. :3

If you are feeling all commenty, I’d love to hear what sorts of things YOU as readers like to see in a graphic novel (particularly a webcomic collection GN) as extras that would be enticing to you to perhaps purchase it. Would you prefer colour? or black and white like a proper manga? What price would you expect it to be? I’m aiming for about 120 pages right now for the book. Any feedback is appreciated!

I know, I’m evil. XD I do apologize that I ended up skipping last week’s update. I was actually pretty annoyed with myself, but I am still recovering from surgery and I have these periods of exhaustion that just sap the life from me, couple that with having a flu, and well.. yeah. I just ran out of time. I’m sure that will improve though as time goes on. Having livestreams helps too, since I can be kinda focused when I’m yacking about what I’m doing.

Its good to see people liking the facebook pages, keep it coming. I also have a tumblr account now, although I really haven’t totally figured out how I want to use it. But if you are into tumblr, feel free to follow me. I do have a poll up right now there if you would be so kind as to give some feed back as to what you use to stay informed. If you use other things you think I should know about, feel free to leave it in the comments! I try to notify people all over the place, especially given that my update schedule is still erratic, although improving.

On a really positive note, I submitted the Raif wallpaper I did (Raif in Fire) to Elfwood, and got a Moderator’s Pick! It only took 13 friggen years, but I finally got one. HAH. (If you poke around on elfwood you can see some REALLY old art of mine. It only proves that, yes you too can improve if you kick your own ass for a decade or so.) If you haven’t seen the new wallpaper its in the gallery at 800×600, but if you want the full, large rez versions, you’ll have to login to the site (or register, if you haven’t) and you’ll get a nifty option under the gallery called ‘wallpaper’ where you can download the high resolution of all the wallpapers I’ve done and in the future I will do. I’ll likely be adding more site member features, so its worth registering, You will also be registered for the forums! Which really need some love..

Woot. I got the page done. So far we are three weeks in a row for updates! Horray!

Glad to see people are finding the facebook page for Brymstone, I’m going to try to work on some stuff to upload to it as well as vote incentives, but my main concern has been keeping up with updates for now, everything extra can come later.

If you follow my other comic at all, Shifters, or have in the past, you should know there’s a big announcement over on the main page. You should check it out, there’s even a contest on the forums . You know, I think I need to write this stuff in advance, because inevitably when I finish the comic at like 1am, I’m all like DURRRR when I go to write these things. There’s always stuff I wanna ask you guys during the week and then when I get to the point where I actually post the comic, its like everything falls out of my head. So you get 1 am hallucination rambles. Hooray.

I think I remember a few things I wanted to say through the hazy fog of OMG-I-am-so-tired. One is to point out that, in case you didn’t know, Brymstone has a facebook page and you should like it if you haven’t already. Secondly I thought I’d get your guys thoughts on the forum. No one has used it for a while (granted it was broken for a bit there) But its fixed now! I’m even working on an roleplaying area in the forums. If you are into that, input is welcome. Are like forums totally out of style or something and is that why no one uses them? And speaking of style, what exactly is the point of Tumblr? Oh yes, and forumspring. I have a forumspring account, no one ever asks me anything on it, so its all empty and lonely and pathetic. Why do I have this again? Social media is so hard to keep up on. Although I do twitter a fair amount. Follow me for updates and notifications of livestreams of me drawing! I only really put notes on twitter or on my Deviantart account.
